Solar Energy Lessons

Lesson 1: Introduction to Solar Energy: Part I
In this lesson, students will learn about solar energy and ways that we can convert that energy into electricity. They will be exposed to real-world applications of solar power, and they will use small solar photovoltaic (pv) panels to investigate different variables that may affect solar pv performance.

Lesson 2: Introduction to Solar Energy: Part II
In this lesson, students will continue to learn about solar energy and ways that we can convert that energy into electricity. They then design an experiment to investigate different variables that may affect solar pv performance.

Lesson 3: Solar PV Experiment
In this lesson, students will consider different variables that can affect the electrical output of a solar pv panel, and then they will design and conduct an experiment to test the effect of a single variable.

Lesson 4: Solar Energy: Online Investigations
In this lesson, students will use real data available on the internet to learn about solar photovoltaic (pv) systems at schools in Michigan. Students will learn about environmental benefits of solar energy as well as costs, and they will learn to calculate the return on investment for a solar pv system. Finally, they will complete a basic solar assessment report for their own school.
