Maureen Quaid, Conservation Services Group, Renewable Energy Business Development Director, has worked in the energy efficiency and renewable energy fields for over 20 years. As CSG’s Renewable Energy Market Lead for New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program, she oversees program operations, policy consulting and market development services for renewable energy programs in the state, with the goal of transitioning renewable project financing from rebates to market-based mechanisms. She leads the development of technical QC standards, develops and manages program budgets, and represents programs in public forums. She holds an M.S. in Journalism from Northwestern University and a B.S. in Honors Psychology from Arizona State University.
William Birge, PE, (Business Consultant) is a licensed professional engineer in the State of Michigan, a retired automotive engineering executive and a long standing Director of the Recycle Ann Arbor Board of Directors. After retiring as V.P. Technology for the Allied Signal/Honeywell WW Automotive Group, he served as a private consultant in the field of technology planning and management. He remains active as a Trustee of several non-profit education-related foundations. He holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Wayne State University and a Masters Degree in Automotive Engineering from the Chrysler Institute.
Steve Wiese, Principal, Clean Energy Associates, founded Clean Energy Associates in 2007 to address client needs in the areas of renewable energy program and policy development; renewable energy finance structures including Renewable Energy Credits (RECs); renewable energy education and training; and distributed generation monitoring and performance verification. He has performed technical analyses for Sandia National Laboratories, delivered educational programs for the Texas State Energy Conservation Office, engaged in policy development processes for the Solar Alliance, and reviewed and authored reports for the New Jersey Clean Energy Programs, Austin Energy, and other clients. He earned master’s degrees from the University of Texas’ LBJ School of Public Affairs and McCombs School of Business.
Jim Carter (Legal Consultant) is a business attorney with more than 25 years experience in contract law, formation of business entities, and commercial transactions. He has drafted and reviewed hundreds of contracts in the field of commercial real estate and general business, including sale agreements for real estate, and other types of property, lease agreements, easements, deeds, land contracts, mortgages and promissory notes, sale agreements for businesses, articles of incorporation, bylaws, operating agreements, shareholder agreements, bills of sale, and security agreements. He holds an MBA and JD degrees, and is licensed in Michigan as an attorney, a real estate broker, and residential contractor.
Dave Friedrichs (Consultant) is a Certified Property Manager and is chief operating and financial officer for a project management company responsible for hundreds of residential units and commercial properties in Michigan. He has a long commitment to renewable energy and energy efficiency and sits on the board of Michigan Interfaith Power and Light, is a member of the State of Michigan Energy Office Wind Working Group, and is active in professional organizations including the Great Lakes Renewable Energy Association and the Home Builders Association. He earned a B.A. in Economics from Michigan State University and completed graduate coursework as a Fulbright-Hayes Fellow at the Universidad de Pernambuco, Brazil.
Robert Black, Architect (Group Facilitation) is an architect, artist and teacher with a diverse professional practice and wide ranging personal studies in community planning, architectural design & construction, and group dynamics & facilitation. His work and life experiences include community service, small and large business management, dramatic and music performance, public speaking, seminars creation, architectural history research, and advanced studies on human behavior. Robert is a principal of Sunstructures Architects in Ann Arbor - award winning and recognized as experts in sustainable design and energy-conscious architecture.
Mark Doman, PE (Engineering Consultant) is a licensed professional engineer in Michigan and six other states and two provinces. He has over 30 years of experience in the design, manufacture and installation of large, recreational transportation devices, especially ski lifts and roller coasters. His projects are in nine states and seven countries. He presently manages the ski and amusement safety program for the State of Michigan and contributes to the ANSI and ASTM standards writing committees in these fields. He earned a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan and a BSME from Cornell University.
Jonathan Hoard (Communications Consultant) is a director and producer of broadcast and web based communications. He has a strong understanding of direct and interactive marketing, art direction and experience in customer usability and information architecture. He has taught courses at Wayne State University in web design and information architecture. He received a BS in Business Administration from Central Michigan University and extensive coursework at the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan.
Jeremy Hockett, PhD, (Post-Secondary Education Consultant) teaches courses in American Culture, Art History/Architecture, Qualitative Research Studies, and Social Sciences. He teaches and develops online curriculum for Lansing Community College and the Art Institute of Pittsburgh for ANGEL and eCollege delivery platforms. He has taught courses for Central Michigan University, Eastern Michigan University, Lansing Community College, and Washtenaw Community College. He received PhD in American Studies from the University of New Mexico, MA in Art History from Michigan State University, and B.A. in German Language and Art History from Michigan State University.
Wayne Appleyard, Architect, (RE Systems Consultant) has over 30 years of experience designing and overseeing the construction of a wide variety of projects. Wayne’s expertise in renewable energy and sustainable architecture has led him to conduct workshops and give presentations at a variety of institutions and conferences. He has personally had hands-on experience with: solar, water and air heaters, photovoltaic systems, wind electric systems, composting toilets, grey water systems, strawbale construction, slip-formed stone walls, radiant floor slab heating systems, air-to-air heat exchangers and ground source heat pumps.
