Mission:
To provide an unbiased, hands-on, interdisciplinary, Michigan based energy efficiency and renewable energy curriculum support guide to K-12 schools. Students will be empowered to find solutions to the energy challenges Michigan faces and to make well-informed decisions.
Guiding Principles
Educational Philosophy
We will provide teachers with high-quality lessons that are rigorously reviewed and classroom tested. The lessons will be adaptable and flexible to meet teachers’ needs. The lessons will be hands-on and engaging for students using inquiry-based methods that focus on real-world issues.
Energy Literacy
Energy efficiency lessons will provide students with knowledge and understanding of energy efficiency measures that can save money and reduce energy consumption. Renewable energy lessons will provide students with knowledge and understanding of solar photovoltaic (PV) and wind energy systems.
Values
The Curriculum Support Guide will provide an unbiased resource for teachers and students to incorporate lessons about energy efficiency and renewable energy in the classroom. Environmental decisions are inherently value laden and the lessons will encourage students to be critical thinkers, to be aware of their own values, and to draw their own conclusions about environmental issues, while also encouraging students to be responsible citizens.
Relevance
We will provide teachers with lessons that are interdisciplinary in nature and that are aligned with the state’s Grade Level Content Expectations and High School Content Expectations. Our lessons will be Michigan-based, providing information that reflects the state’s energy resources and opportunities.
