DEARBORN — Energy Works Michigan, a nonprofit organization, has awarded the Advanced Technology Academy (ATA) a Michigan K-12 public charter school a $5,000 matching grant. ATA will use the grant to improve the energy efficiency of its school located in Dearborn at 4801 Oakman Blvd.
After an investigation of energy use, the Advanced Technology Academy has developed a plan to save money and reduce its energy use through implementing conservation measures that include installing high efficiency lighting ballasts, reducing vending machine energy use and reconfiguring an existing steam boiler. In addition ATA will use a utility tracking service to measure its energy usage.
As a result of the energy improvements, ATA has been awarded an additional $5,000 matching grant by Energy Works Michigan to assist with additional energy efficiency improvements.
Dr. Richard Schneider, ATA Board President said, “ATA has been committed to reducing its energy consumption for several years. In 2009 ATA was recognized as an Evergreen school by the Michigan Green Schools program. This grant affirms ATA’s ongoing commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.”
Barry Hawthorne Executive Director and Chief Administrative Officer added, “We are very excited to have been selected to participate in the Energy Works Michigan program. The energy audit helped us concentrate our efforts to save money through reduced energy use. It’s a real incentive for making cost-saving energy improvements.”
Since 1999 the Advanced Technology Academy has provided a unique education opportunity to residents of Southeast Michigan. It’s mission is to provide students with a high-quality interdisciplinary learning experience that is academically challenging. The academy partners with the community, business and institutions of higher education to create a learning environment that prepares students for success in college and professional careers.
