Eligibility
: The Greening Michigan Classrooms Grant is open to all teachers employed by a public or private K-12 school located in Michigan. Limit of one proposal submission per teacher.

Program Goals:
The goal of the Energy Works Michigan’s Greening Michigan Classrooms Grant is to fund innovative ideas created by teachers for classroom activities, events, and/or projects to green K-12 schools across Michigan. The grant will fund the cost of materials and supplies needed by teachers for classroom activities, events, and/or projects that engage students in the challenges and opportunities of building a sustainable future. The use of Facebook in K-12 classrooms will be an educational tool for both teachers and students. The Energy Works Facebook Fan Page is intended to be used as a hub for green conversations among K-12 educators and a place to share and learn about initiatives at schools across the state.

Expectation of Grantees:
Teachers that are awarded funding for their classroom activities, events, and/or projects are expected to inform Energy Works Michigan of the progress via posts to the Classroom Facebook Fan Page and shared with Energy Works Michigan Facebook Fan Page (type @Energy Works Michigan at the end of the post). Progress updates should include photos and brief descriptions throughout different stages (beginning, middle, and completion) of the classroom activities, events, and/or projects.

How to Submit:

1. Submit Entry Form found at
www.EnergyWorksMichigan.org/entry-form
2. Create a Facebook account if you do not currently have a Facebook profile.
3. Create a Facebook Fan Page for your classroom (Refer to “Creating a Facebook Fan Page for your Classroom” at www.EnergyWorksMichigan.org/GMCG)
4. Become a fan of the Energy Works Michigan Facebook Fan Page at www.Facebook.com/EnergyWorksMichigan.
5. Submit your grant idea by posting it on your classroom Facebook Fan Page wall (420 characters or less), and share your idea with the Energy Works Fan Page (type @Energy Works Michigan at the end of your post).

Judging:
Judging criteria is based on grant proposals that best demonstrate innovative classroom activities, events, and/or projects with a green message that will engage and inspire students in the challenges of building a sustainable future. Grant ideas must also demonstrate the best use of funds to purchase materials and supplies relevant to the activities, events, and/or projects that will have a long lasting impression on the students.

Selection of Grantees and Notification:
Grantees will be selected and announced on Monday September 27, 2010 and will be notified via Facebook and individual email. Winners will be announced via Facebook and on the Energy Works Michigan website and monthly newsletter. Grantees will have five (5) business days to acknowledge their acceptance of the grant. In the event that Energy Works Michigan is unable to contact the winner after reasonable attempts to do so during a five day period, an alternate winner may be selected.

Announcement of Grantees:
Winners will be announced via Facebook, email, and on the Energy Works Michigan website and monthly newsletter.

General Rules
: Entries submitted to the Greening Michigan Classrooms Grant will be bound by the official Rules & Eligibility. The Greening Michigan Classrooms Grant entries will be accepted starting Thursday August 27, 2010. We reserve the right to refuse any entry submitted to the Greening Michigan Classrooms Grant, and to award none of the entries received. All applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations apply.

Requirements
: A classroom Facebook Fan Page must be created in order to be eligible. All grant ideas must be submitted by Monday, September 20, 2010 on the Energy Works Michigan Facebook Fan Page in order to be eligible. Exceptions will be made if school policy prevents the use of Facebook.

Publicity:
Only the title of the classroom Facebook Fan Page, the name of the school, and descriptions of the activities, events, and/or projects will be displayed on the Energy Works Michigan Facebook Fan Page. Personal information will not be shared publicly. Acceptance of grant shall constitute and signify the winner’s agreement and consent that Energy Works Michigan may use winner’s Facebook Fan Page, contest entry, and/or prize information for promotional purposes, including the internet, without further payment or consideration, except where prohibited by law.

(40) Individual Awards: Approximately 40 grants will be awarded, with the final number being based on the individual award amounts.
